Radon Testing

Radon Inspections
Done the Right Way!

We are licensed and trained to identify if Radon is present in your home or property, by using Continuous Radon Monitors.

What is Radon?

Radon is a gas that you cannot smell, taste or see. Radon forms naturally when uranium, radium and thorium break down in rocks, soil and groundwater. People can be exposed to radon from breathing in air that comes through cracks and gaps in buildings and homes.

Is Radon Dangerous?

Breathing in radon can cause serious health problems and even death. Radon is estimated to be the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States. It is responsible for over 20,000 cases of lung cancer deaths each year, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Why Radon Testing?

Testing your home is the only effective way to find out if you have a radon problem. You might think you’re not at risk because your neighbor had a radon test done and it came back negative, but Radon levels can vary drastically even in houses that are right next to each other.

Radon Testing

Continuous Radon Monitoring
vs Charcoal Testing?

There are two primary ways to test for radon levels: passive and active tests. Charcoal test kits passively monitor levels of radon, while Continuous Radon Monitoring actively monitor levels of radon. Whats the difference?

Charcoal

Charcoal Test Kits

The most commonly used type of radon test by inspectors and home owners is a standard home charcoal radon test kit. Charcoal kits work by absorbing radon particles into a charcoal packet over a period of 2-5 days. Once the packet has been exposed for the set period of time, it is sealed up and shipped to a lab to be analyzed. While these kits are inexpensive and very handy for homeowners curious about their radon levels, they should not be used for real estate transactions or for understanding accurate radon levels. They can be easily tampered with and can give inaccurate data back on radon levels. There is nothing on a charcoal radon test kit that can prevent someone from relocating it to the exterior of the home or an upper level of the home to skew the results. Results are vulnerable to environmental elements and the tests are prone to user error. Additionally, labs who handle the tests have no regulatory oversight and studies show that commercial laboratories are prone to errors with these tests.

Continuous Monitor

Continuous Digital Monitors

The most trusted and preferred radon testing choice of most realtors and home buyers is continuous digital radon monitoring. A professional digital radon test device is the fastest and most accurate way to test for radon. At DMV Radon Testing, we utilize the SunRADON 1028. These machines are used by radon professionals worldwide, come from a trusted brand of 30+ years experience, and are reliable. Our continuous radon monitors, or CRM’s, take hourly radon readings and give instant results. This also means that if the device is moved in any way, or the windows are opened during the test process, the report will show it, which means there is no way to provide fraudulent results. If readings are high, hourly readings assist remediation experts with identifying the problem in an effective and efficient way. All this helps you – the client – get your information fast and accurately. There is no need to send the machine to a lab and wait for results. The results are read and emailed at the end of the evaluation.
